Wada of Kogi state
Confirming the incident the state police commissioner,
Emmanuel Ojukwu, said that some “bad boys” were arrested with weapons.
The commissioner said that further details will be
subsequently given as the press will be adequately briefed after police
investigations.
Speaking further, Ojukwu warned that miscreants and
political thugs should keep away from the state as the governorship election
approaches stressing that anybody caught in any act of violence will be made to
face the wrath of the law.
The police boss did not also leave various politicians
in the state out of it as he further warned that they should endeavour to
conduct themselves within the ambit of the law.
Ojukwu said that no matter the political party nor how
highly placed an individual may be, if they sponsor any form of agitation
leading to restiveness and thuggery in the state before, during and after the
governorship election, that they will be made to face prosecution within the
law.
Although it was not clear as to which of the political
parties in the state the arrested thugs belonged and who was sponsoring them,
the source said the police have already begun an investigation of the suspects.
It was reported that 16 AK-47 rifles, four double
barreled shotguns, three locally made pistols, knives, cutlasses and some
charms were recovered from the arrested youths.
Meanwhile, the state chapter of
the Peoples Democratic Party had recentlycommended President Muhammadu Buhari for distancing himself from the
governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Abubakar
Audu.
