The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission
(ICPC) is set to invite for questioning several former governors over
allegations of corruption during their tenures.
New
Telegraph reports that ICPC operatives will summon at least six ex-governors to
the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Abuja for interrogation.
The
questioning of the former governors comes following the completion of reports
of special investigations ordered into their tenures.
A source familiar with the developments revealed that the reports of investigations submitted by a crack team known as Chairman Special Team is headed by the chairman of the commission’s investigation unit.
He
added that the ICPC would invite the former governors in groups to show
Nigerians that it does not consider party affiliation.
However,
the source refused to name those ex-governors that would be quizzed.
“I will not mention names, but all I can disclose to you now is the fact
that the Chairman Special Team have since been turning in reports of their
investigations and very soon former governors will be invited for questioning
on allegations of corruption, abuse of office and such other related offences.
“They (the probe team) are coming back with their reports and the
commission’s leadership is studying them with a view to instituting iron cast
cases where substantial evidence to sustain charges are established.
“Importantly, I want to let you know that the ex-governors will be
invited in groups in such a way that it won’t be sectional. The petitioners
will be invited alongside the governors to authenticate their claims. ICPC
hardly files more than eight charges and our lawyers are always meticulous in
their prosecution,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prophet Timothy Akande, the presiding pastor at Christ
Apostolic Church, Osun state, has predicted that corrupt officials in Nigeria will face the wrath of President Muhammadu
Buhari.
The
prophet said that corrupt people must be ready to reap what they had sown and
urged the president not to relent in his fight against corruption.
