FORMER PDP governorship aspirant and now a
chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi State, Alh. Isah
Jibrin Echocho has stormed Dekina to rally support for the governorship
candidate of his new party, Prince Abubakar Audu.
Abubakar Audu
Remarkably, the PDP
governorship candidate and incumbent governor, Capt Idris Wada
hails from
Dekina Local Government Area. Addressing party loyalists in Dekina over the
weekend, Echocho said he decided to join APC out of love for Kogi in order
to move the state forward and thus called on the people to move out en masse to
support Audu.
In his words: “We are
at a point where change has become a necessity. I left the PDP because
the party has been devalued by the abysmal performance of the
present government. It is unthinkable for me to love PDP more than my dear
state.
Infrastructure development
“Even the present
government knows they have failed the Kogi people. Infrastructural development
is zero and workers’ welfare has been relegated to the background. As a state,
we cannot continue to serve a god that has failed to liberate us from
underdevelopment. I am convinced that Prince Abubakar Audu is better equipped
and better qualified to move the state forward.
“The PDP is already
jittery that they can no more win with their style. We are prepared to liberate
the state from the jaws of underdevelopment which PDP represents.”

Meanwhile, the
Publicity Secretary of the PDP and the Chairman of the Publicity Committee of
the PDP Governorship Campaigns, Prince Bode Ogunmola has described Echocho as a
man “drenched in the failures of the past”, urging the people of Kogi State to
stand by a “humble and credible governor”. According to Prince Ogunmola, the
people of Kogi State now see Echocho as someone who will do anything to become
the governor of the state despite being rejected on two occasions by his own
party members.
“We are not bothered
about the fact that Echocho has chosen to support his in-law, Prince Abubakar
Audu. We are also not concerned about whatever pact exists between the duo. But
what we know is that the people of this state will not bring back
any Pharaoh that reigned over the state and elevated kleptomania to a new ring.
“Our candidate, Capt. Idris Wada is humble, transparent and committed to the
Kogi Transformation Agenda. His visionary contribution to the development of
the state is evident to people who are not suffering from political myopia.
“On 21 November, PDP
will celebrate its fifth victory over Prince Abubakar Audu by the grace of God
and the people of Kogi who remain appreciative of the contributions of the
governor. Even the efforts of the enemies of Kogi workers who are scheming to
block the release of bailout fund for salaries will soon realise that the power
of the people is mightier than any force”.
Ogunmola reiterated
the determination of the PDP to ensure a peaceful and credible poll next month.
