Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, a former governor of Sokoto state,
wants President Muhammadu Buhari to run for a second tenure.
According
to him, Buhari should rule beyond 2019 so he can address the rot that has eaten
deep into the country, saying four years was too short to do so, Daily Trust
reports.
Wamakko
stated this on Wednesday, November 4 when he hosted students of the faculty of
law of the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.
He said: “Four years cannot be enough to address the rot done to the country in the last 30 years. We cannot expect miracle from the president in view of the enormous damage done to the country, he needs to be given opportunity to be around beyond 2019.”
The
former governor commended Buhari for his hard work in the five months of his
administration, saying he has been making efforts to get the country back on
the right track of development.
He
noted that Buhari’s administration would soon begin the development of the
country as the ministerial screening had been concluded.
Wammakko
said the journey to prosperity in the country had begun as they were able to
sack the former weak and ineffective administration.
Aliyu
Wamakko ran successfully for governor of Sokoto state in April 2007 on the
platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and assumed office on May 29,
2007. Following an appeal, his election was annulled in April 2008 on the basis
that he had still been a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) when he
won the PDP nomination. However, he regained his seat in the May 2008 re-run.
In
November 2013, Wamakko, alongside the former governor of Kano Rabiu Kwankwaso ,
former governor of Adamawa Murtala Nyako and the former governor of Rivers
state Rotimi Amaechi, dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress after
staging a walk out at the PDP national convention in Abuja.
