The Urhobo nation has
disowned the pro-Biafra agitators, saying they are not a part of Biafra.
The Urhobo nation demanded that they should be
removed from the proposed map of Biafra by the Indigenous People of Biafra
(IPOB), Vanguard reports.
This was contained in statement yesterday, November 13, by Alhaji Mumakai-Unagha, the national publicity secretary of the Urhobo Progress Union.
The statement read: “IPOB have their rights
of agitation for freedom of self-determination as enshrined in the United
Nation declaration stressing that other ethnic groups should not be dragged
along to avoid the mistake that led to the civil war.
“The
magnanimity of Urhobos in allowing Igbos celebrate the Igbo Cultural Day should
not be taken for granted as we urge IPOB to delist Urhobo from its proposed map.”
Mumakai-Unagha warned that Urhobo and its
territories should be counted out from any IPOB plan.
The Nigerian government has described the
pro-Biafrans as an “insignificant number of frustrated people who are
not a threat to the existence of Nigeria.”
Two days ago, Rivers Elders
and Leaders said they are disturbed over the recent resurgence of the issue of
Biafra and its effect on the peace-loving people of Rivers
state. This was in reaction to the November 10 Biafra protest that
gridlocked the streets of Port Harcourt.
Eight persons including a
female, alleged to be supporters of the Movement for Actualisation of the
Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), involved in the protestwere arraigned
by the police before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Port
Harcourt, Rivers state.
