In a jaw
breaking move, the Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting
in Abuja nullified the victory of Governor Darius
Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the April
11 Taraba Guber elections and declared Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan of the APC as winner.
This is the first time a woman
is elected governor in Nigeria, a country which has and is still battling
equal rights for its fairer sex.

The last time a woman was governor in Nigeria occurred
in 2006 -2007 when Dame Virginia Ngozi Etiaba was declared governor of
Anambra state on November 2006 after the impeachment of Peter Obi
by the state legislature for alleged gross misconduct.
She then was taken off by Febraury 2007, lasting only
four months on the Anambra hot seat.

Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan has however proved to be
a remarkable woman by strength and virtue, here are some things you may not
know about the lady known as Mama Taraba.
1. She is a Fulani.
2. She is a trained lawyer and has taken care of
multiple cases.
3. She is the first female to be appointed
Taraba State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice and also the first
woman to be appointed as Secretary FCT judicial council.
4. She is the First female Senator from Taraba state
and got her ticket being part of the Peoples Democratic Party, She later
decamped to the All Progressive Congress.
5. Despite being an avid Muslim herself, she enjoys
huge backing from Taraba Christians and Muslims as she is known as a caring
person, henceforth the name Mama Taraba.
6. It’s said that during the last assembly she wanted
to become the senate president, the position then held by Senator David Mark.
7. She is one of the women nominated by President
Muhammadu Buhari for a Ministerial Position and will now have to choose between
Taraba and a Ministerial appointment.
8. Her elder brother is former Senator Abdulazeez
Ibrahim.
9. She is an avid football fan and even supports the
Taraba State Football Association.
