With the announcement of ministerial
nominees and confirmation of some, the United State government has said it
waiting for the policies to be introduced by the ministers of president Buhari.
The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle said this when he led
some foreign investors on a courtesy visit to the Lagos House, Alausa
Secretariat, Ikeja.
According to Vanguard newspaper, Entwistle
“What everyone is waiting for at this time is the confirming
of the cabinet at the federal level and the new policies that will drive the
country.”
“The
US government stands with you (Ambode) as you take up these challenges of
running the State of Lagos. The relationship between Lagos State and US
governments has always been excellent. I can assure you that it will continue.
“We
have a new consul-general, who is experienced, has previously served in Abuja.
That excellent relationship will continue.
Speaking about Lagos state, the envoy said he would like to know
Ambode’s vision for the state and what he sees as the major challenges.
Responding, Ambode noted that the US input to peaceful transition went
a long way to ensure the polls was successful.
He however noted that his commitment would ensure that the rule of law
is enshrined into governance in the state. Ambode added that his
administration’s determination to ensure that the ease of doing business in
Lagos is enhanced through enduring security and judicial sector reforms.
He said the establishment of the Office of Overseas Affairs and
Investment, which would directly be administered by his office, is geared
towards making the state more investor-friendly and safer.
“I
want to say that the relationship we’ve had with the United States has been
longstanding and you’ve always been a friend indeed, we just quickly want to
recommit ourselves to that relationship so much that the security of every
American that comes into Lagos is of utmost importance to me; you’ll see that
in the last four months what we’ve been trying to do is to recommit ourselves
to security and judicial sector reforms”.
Meanwhile, Ambode has asked his newly appointed commissioners and
special advisers to hit the ground running. He reminded the new
appointees that their primary allegiance is to the people of the state,
irrespective of creed and colour, and urged them to dedicate themselves to the
service of the state.
The
speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has
described the Supreme Court verdict on the governorship election in Lagos
state as the final nail in the coffin of the state chapter of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
