Senate in Disarray Over Leakage Of Order Papers
There is suspense and confusion in the Senate chambers and gallery as two order papers are in circulation.
Rotimi Amaechi
The only difference between the two papers is the senate leader’s motion on the introduction of the ministerial nominees, a source told Naij.com
One of the papers has eight nominees, while the other has three.
The eight nominees in the first paper are Adebayo Shittu, Heineken Lokpobiri, Rotimi Amaechi, Khadija Ibrahim, Baba Bwari, Ocholi James, Mansur Mohammed and Zainab Ahmed.
The second paper has only Adebayo Shittu, Khadija Ibrahim and Claudius Daramola.
However, the source who is also a National Assembly staff said: “The first paper was not meant to get to the public.”
“Its being in the public was just to create confusion. It’s unfortunate. The second with three nominees is the authentic,” the source added.
By this development, Amaechi’s world may have been compounded as his screening is further deferred.
The former Rivers state governor’s screening by the senate has been deferred twice following a petition by three People’s Democratic Party senators from Rivers state. The senators had raised concerns over corruption allegations against Amaechi.
However, the former governor has written three letters to the senate through the senate president Bukola Saraki saying the petitions against him is veered at tarnishing his reputation and political career. He also urged the upper house to ignore the petition.
