Oluremi Tinubu Speaks For The First Time At The 8th Senate

On Thursday, October 8, Oluremi Tinubu, the
former First Lady of Lagos and wife of Bola
Tinubu, spoke for the first time at the 8th
Senate.
Oluremi Tinubu addresses Bukola Saraki
Participating in the plenary session, Mrs Tinubu
addressed Bukola Saraki as “distinguished
Senate president”, Daily Post reports.
Mrs Tinubu and her husband, the national leader
of the All Progressives Congress, are widely
believed not to support the emergence of Saraki
as the president of the Senate. The APC
supported Ahmed Lawan for the exalted position.
During the swearing-in ceremony into the
Senate, Mrs Tinubu allegedly refused to shake
hands with Saraki who greeted other senators
sworn in along with her.
Taking part in the debate on the legislative
agenda of the upper chamber, Tinubu called on
her colleagues not to repeat mistakes that the
Senate under the leadership of the Peoples
Democratic Party had made.

Saraki Speaks Up
“This is the first time Nigerians will vote against a
ruling party to birth a new government. And
looking at the agenda so far, I’m in the position to
allow this new government to take root.
“I see us resisting things that did not work in the
seventh senate. And since they didn’t work in the
seventh senate why are we resisting them.
“Thank God they said they want to consider the
national conference report, but it went through a
lot of criticisms and scrutiny. We as the APC then
thought was a mere distraction. If we are going to
do a new constitution we should be given room to
do that.

“I think this Senate has an agenda, and that’s to
give the people what they want. Let us go back to
our constituencies, and look at the needs of the
common man. Coming here if we have to make
laws to that effect we should be given the room to
do so,” she said.
Senator Tinubu has recently revealed that during
the campaign for her second term in the March
28 National Assembly election, her husband did
not support her bid. However, district leaders
later got the form for her and talked Bola Tinubu
into allowing his wife to run for the position.
