APC Senators Decide Amaechi’s Fate

APC Senators Decide Amaechi’s Fate

The senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) , have taken a decision on a fate of Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state.
Ex-governor was nominated as minister by President Muhammadu Buhari on September 30, but unlike others who were nominated together with him,  last week by the Senate which has been expecting the review of its Ethic and Privileges Committee on the appeal sent to the upper chamber against Amaechi.
The Integrity Group, a non-governmental organisation, had written an appeal to Bukola Saraki on the former governor, saying that its major objective was to fight corruption and enable that corrupt people are brought to justice.
Senators under the platform of the ruling party, however, decided to support the immediate past governor of Rivers state, when he appears for his screening and confirmation as a minister.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, an APC senator, who asked not to be named, said: “We are determined not to allow the PDP stop the confirmation of Amaechi. We are determined to ensure that he is confirmed because there is no reason for him not to be confirmed.
“Ameachi contributed a lot to the evolution of APC. He suffered a lot in the hands of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Wike wants to continue and we will not allow it.
“Given the way people have been mounting pressure on us, the public is in support of Amaechi; even outside the country, people are in support of him.
“We are united on this matter in the APC caucus. We are members of the same party. When it comes to fighting a common enemy, we are always united.”
If meanwhile the recommendation of the committee is neglected by the Senate, and it resolves to screen him, Amaechi’s screening would most likely happen tomorrow in order to ward off the probability of a division in the chamber or any row that could lead to a postponement in the screening of other ministerial appointees.
