The Nigerian Senate is set to continue the screening
and confirmation of the remaining ministerial nominees today, October 27.

The red chamber is also expected to decide Rotimi
Amaechi’s fate during the plenary.
Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have mapped out strategies on how to achieve
their set goals.
Though senators from the opposition party have
supposedly determined to frustrate the confirmation of the ex-governor of
Rivers state, their APC colleagues have pledged to ensure that Amaechi is
confirmed.
The PDP senators are said to be concerned that with
the confirmation of Amaechi as minister, he would receive so much influence and
power in the politics of his native home state, Rivers, with a re-run
governorship election to be held.
The review of the Senate Committee on Ethics
Privileges and Public Petitions on appeals against Amaechi is also to be
considered today according to reports.
Amaechi was the first nominee to be invited into the
Senate chamber after being denied the opportunity thrice as a result of a
petitions against him over alleged corruption.
After about 50
minutes of questioning, the ex-governor was asked to take a bow.
